CHINESE HERBAL CONSULTATION – $60/45 min (in person or virtual)
Within the herbal consultation, the herbalist will ask a series of relevant questions geared towards highlighting the areas of dysfunction. This dialogue will yield a pattern diagnosis which will be matched with an appropriate herbal prescription. The formula will then be compounded and delivered with precise dosage and ingestion directions. Typically, the formula will be provided in a powdered, granule state for ease of storage and preparation. However, raw herb ingredients or prefabricated capsules may be prescribed, if indicated. The initial consult should be followed up with an additional check-in within a few days to evaluate the progress of the individual and to determine if alterations are necessary. We are honored to participate with you on your healing journey!
How it Works
Chinese medicine is founded on the knowledge that humans are part of and inseparable from the natural world. It views the movements of nature and the cosmos as being reflected in the functions of the human body. Together with the meridians, or energy channels, over 400 acupoints exist and affect body areas from the skin level at the surface down to the interior levels of the bone and organs. As a reflection of nature, the meridians that span the body are thought of as rivers and streams, while the acupoints along these meridians are commonly referred to as caves. Each of the acupoints has a particular name relating to location or function, and majority of these names often depict natural features such as mounds, marshes, pools, and celestial bodies. The stimulation of these points and channels elicit impulses which activate the body’s natural healing ability, thereby assisting a person towards a state of equilibrium. The diagnosis and treatment plan for each client all follow these principles of macro and microcosmic alignment, and are firmly rooted in the principles of the five phases of nature and the six organ networks of the body.
Within the Treatment
At the beginning of each session, the practitioner conducts an intake with the patient. This dialogue is composed of a series of targeted questions aimed at gaining subjective insight into the client’s concerns, as well as the overall functioning of their anatomical systems. The practitioner will also use objective diagnostic tools like radial pulse reading, tongue and facial observation, channel and abdominal palpation, and qualities of the voice to gain additional relevant information about the energetic and physical status of the client’s body. All of these details paint a picture of the internal and external balance of the organ systems and will guide the practitioner toward a specific diagnosis and treatment plan. Every acupuncture session takes the whole person into account. This medicine excels at meeting each individual as they present on any given day along the spectrum of health and dysfunction.
Acupuncture treatments use single-use, sterile, disposable, hair-thin needles to stimulate the chosen acupoints and meridians. This stimulation and subsequent integration can often provide the client with sensations of relaxation and euphoria. Because of the holistic nature of Chinese medicine, this push towards equilibrium can often result in reduced symptoms of pain and dysfunction while yielding increases of healthy physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Chinese Herbal Consultations
The power of Chinese herbal medicine is limitless. Based on thousands of years of lineage traditions, Chinese herbal formulation has evolved to be one of the most potent forms of medicine available. This is because, like all of Chinese medicine, it is firmly rooted in the principles of nature: expansion and contraction, decay and rebirth. These principles are reflected within the human body and are exemplified on the spectrum of balance between health and disharmony. With millennia of empirical evidence to guide them, Chinese herbalists combine potent medicinal substances to invoke healing “gestures” aimed at bringing a person back to a homeostatic state. These herbs, often common roots, barks, minerals and other natural materials, each have a particular partiality; for example, some may be warm and upbearing, while others cold and down-bearing. When combining herbs together in artfully crafted formulas, their partialities accentuate one another and create an energetic “push”, or gesture, towards a particular direction. For example, warm, upwards-bearing herbs would be appropriate for a person who is stuck in a cold and down-pressed state, and vice versa. When matched appropriately, this gesture can propel a person who may have been driven to a state of disharmony back into a state of balance. These states of disharmony can be caused by a variety of reasons: improper diet and lifestyle choices, acute or chronic trauma, emotional and/or energetic holding patterns, etc. It is the job of the herbalist to find where the individual may fall on the spectrum of health and dysfunction, and to encourage them back towards balance by using an appropriate diagnosis and treatment principle. It is important to note that the practitioner and the herbs themselves cannot heal a person. They can only hope to guide the individual in the right direction and trust that their self healing mechanism will take over and do the rest. It is also important to note that this process may take several rounds and permutations to attain the correct formulary gesture. The desired state of balance can more easily be obtained and retained as the individual seeks to limit the causative factors leading towards states of disharmony.
